CCA Point for Attendance and Holiday Meetings.

Hi to all,

this is just to remind all Scouts that Scout meetings and activities held during the holidays are accounted for toward your cumulative attendance percentage. As a benchmark, Scouts are required to meet the minimum attendance of 75% to be awarded for the Participation Point (under the LEAPS system) for that particular year.

This is how we calculate the attendance:
For normal Scout meetings and activities - 2 Participation Points (PP)
For Unit Scouts Camp - 3 Participation Points PER DAY
For Campfires - 1 Participation Point

For example, Dexufto (the upcoming camp organized by Ventures) is a 5 days camp. Total participation point that can be attained will be 15 Points (3X5). Having just checked the attendance for the past year, for a handful of you, your attendance are hovering around 70%; for some of you, your attendance is slightly below 75%; for most of you, your attendance is above 75% but below 80%.

There are some whose attendance are impressive, for example (I'll just list the percentage of the top 3):
From Sec 4s: Tay Zhi Ming (104.44%), Tan Jing Han (102.33%), Joseph Chu (100%), Lim Huai Kang, Wan Liang Xiang, Ryan Cheng, Ong Xin Kai, Ooi Jun Ming

From Sec 3s: Daryl Chan (107.46%), Pang Jun Rong (107.69%), Adam Joshua Lee (104.62%), Lee Wen Yu, Franklin Chen, Keith Fong, Jonathan Pang, Linus Ng

These are just some examples.

So for those of you whose attendance are below 80% (that's most of you), not attending Dexufto will cause your attendance to slip below 75%. The consequence is that you will not be awarded the CCA Point for this year.

As previously mentioned, all meetings held during the school holidays are taken and accounted for toward the calculation of your attendance percentage. Similarly, as stated above, 75% is merely a benchmark for the awarding of CCA Points. In accordance to School Policy, disciplinary actions (amounting up to truancy) will be taken against those who missed (or skipped) CCA without valid reasons for every meeting missed.

On that note, I would like to remind all some of the reasons that will NOT be accepted as valid:
1) Tuition
2) Homework
3) Class Chalet
4) Enrichment Courses / Classes held by external agencies
5) Camps that are not arranged by the school

As for reasons that are accepted:
1) Illness (Medical Certificate MUST BE submitted, otherwise it would be considered as skipped/missed. I'll add on, Parent's Letter in lieu of a medical certificate WILL NOT be accepted)
2) Overseas Trip / Holiday (Photocopy the page with your photograph AND the page which shows your exit and re-entry permit/visa. Show your actual passport to the teacher-in-charge of your level.)
3) Compassionate Reasons

In addition, I would like to remind all Scouts that you are supposed to look for the teacher in charge of your respective level to submit the relevant documents that explain your absence. The teachers are the one taking your attendance and they will be the one to approve of your reasons for your absence.

Informing your PL or SPL is for courtesy sake, likewise, typing in the chatbox of this unit blog WILL NOT be accepted as an account of your absence.

In sum,
1) For all holiday meetings, attendance will be taken and accounted for toward the cumulative attendance percentage
2) For Scouts whose attendance is below 75% will not be awarded the CCA Point for year 2011
3) Dexufto is compulsory where attendance will be taken and for Scouts who miss it, their attendance will be (without a doubt) below 75%
4) All reasons that explain the Scout's absence must be told to the teacher in charge of their level
5) Informing the PL or SPL is merely for courtesy sake; the Scout is still expected to inform the teacher in charge of his level PERSONALLY
6) Typing in the chatbox of the unit blog does not count as well
7) Reasons such as tuition, homework, class chalet, enrichment courses, and camps WILL NOT be approved as valid reason
8) Disciplinary actions (by the School's PE Department AND Pupil Management Department) will be taken for Scouts who are absent due to invalid reasons (note: For Scouts whose attendance are BELOW 75% will face disciplinary actions AND not be awarded the CCA Point for year 2011. For Scouts whose attendance are ABOVE 75% but have missed/skipped more than 4 meetings, disciplinary actions will be taken BUT CCA Point for year 2011 will still be awarded)

9) Lastly, IT IS WITH GREAT CERTAINTY THAT ANY SCOUT WHO FAILS TO ATTEND DEXUFTO WILL NOT MEET THE 75% MARK TO BE AWARDED THE CCA POINT FOR YEAR 2011.

Yours-in-Scouting,
Eric Soong
Scout Leader
